AfDB has a credit portfolio of 60 million dollars for São Tomé and Príncipe

The African Development Bank (AfDB) intends to help the Government reform the country's entire energy system. Ensuring the financial sustainability of the state electricity company is one of the main priorities.

Around half of the 60 million dollars is being invested in the energy sector. As well as investing in the rehabilitation of the energy distribution network, AfDB's credit portfolio prioritizes the production of renewable energy.

A photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 1.5MW is being installed on the outskirts of Vila de Santo Amaro. "It's a combination of investment measures in solar panels. We'll be inaugurating the Santo Amaro plant next month, but we're also working on hydro, we're working on distribution, and on the financial stability of EMAE," emphasized Pietro Toigo, the AfDB representative.
