ALER strengthens co-operation networks during visit to Cape Verde

In October, ALER was on the island of Santiago, in Cape Verde, to support the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) in the organization of the 8th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF).

This exchange allowed ALER to participate in other initiatives that took place in the same period of time in Cape Verde.

4th edition of the Cape Verde Sustainable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fair (FIEREE)

For the second consecutive year, ALER was present at FIEREEE whose 4th edition took place from October 12thto 14th, under the motto "Towards a Fair and Sustainable Transition".

During the fair, ALER had the opportunity to explore the stands of various national and international companies and organisations, in particular its members Cabeólica and Águas de Ponta Preta, as well as the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, with which ALER has a cooperation agreement.

Cape Verde Investment Opportunities & Project Financing

On October 12th, ALER participated in the Investment Days, more specifically in the event dedicated to the debate and presentation of "Investment opportunities in Cape Verde and project financing". This event was organised by the law firm, Morais Leitão, represented in Cape Verde by the ALER member VPQ Advogados.

ALER’s Executive Director, Isabel Cancela de Abreu, was a guest speaker on the panel dedicated to "Investment Opportunities in Cabo Verde and Challenges of Project Financing". See the full programme here.

Raising awareness for climate change: Ribeira Grande on the Sustainability Route

On October 14th, ALER was present at a ceremony to inaugurate the sustainable lighting of the Ribeira Grande de Santiago sports complex. This event marked the activation of solar panels for the sports facilities, symbolizing a new era for this community space. The public lighting will reduce the costs of the multi-sports centre, contributing to the development of community activities such as a sewing club, children's activities, and sports activities at night.

The sustainable lighting of the sports complex served as a platform for the presentation of the project "Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Access to Energy" (SEACAP), of which the Municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago is a signatory.

The SEACAP project financed this public lighting from renewable energy sources and served as a starting point to raise awareness for the role of renewable, clean and sustainable energy.

ALER was present at this activity because it developed the SEACAP Communication and Awareness Plan for the Ribeira Grande de Santiago City Council, with which it has established a cooperation protocol. For this reason, ALER's Project Manager, Pedro Clemente, had the opportunity to present to the local community the benefits that SEACAP can bring to the city.

During the event, the City Council provided a community dinner for all those present, and several community activities were carried out, including the first football match illuminated by the energy of the photovoltaic solar panels.
