International Workshop on Renewable Energy Development in Macaronesia and West Africa

The workshop, which will take place between 30-31 May 2016 at the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) in Praia, Cabo Verde, will bring together up to 80 public and private sector participants from Cabo Verde, the other archipelagos of Macaronesia, selected ECOWAS countries as well as international institutions incl. AFD, GIZ, ECREEE, EU, IRENA, JICA, LuxDevelopment, UNIDO and the World Bank. The participants will be decision makers and technical experts from utilities, ministries, regulatory agencies, project developers and scientists.
 

This workshop aims at accelerating the uptake of clean and cost-effective renewable energy technologies on islands as well as other countries with similar conditions and at strengthening the knowledge base on RE-related topics in these countries. The workshop also focuses on the challenges associated with a high penetration of renewable energy in the electricity grid, and how they will be addressed.
 

The workshop will be organized by the General Directorate of Energy (DGE) of Cabo Verde’s Ministry of Economy and Employment, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE).

A site visit to Cabeólica wind park is scheduled for June 1st.
