Seminar Opportunities for IPP Projects: Renewables in Mozambique 2021

On 24 March, the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association (ALER) and the Mozambican Renewable Energy Association (AMER) organized the Seminar Opportunities for IPP Projects: Renewables in Mozambique 2021, in cooperation with GET.invest Mozambique - funded by the European Union and Germany, and part of the European programme GET.invest, and was organised in partnership with the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), Mozambique Women in Energy (MWE) and Solar Power Europe.

The Seminar was targeting:

  1. Promoters with interest in the development of renewable IPP projects in Mozambique and;
  2. Mozambican companies that may be partners or service providers of IPP promoters, including construction companies, equipment and service providers, investors, and financial institutions. The participation of companies of the entire Mozambican territory is encouraged.

Considering the launch of the Renewable Energy Auctions Program in Mozambique (PROLER) in September 2020, the objective of the Seminar was to provide information about this and other programmes that promote on-grid renewable energy generation. It was intended to highlight the opportunities these programmes represent for the Mozambican business sector, clarify any doubts, and thus support all those interested in submitting proposals, helping to improve their quality in the local content component, and seeking to increase the socio-economic impact of these projects for the country.

The morning was divided in online technical sessions during which representatives of the Government and its cooperation partners was presenting in detail the available support programmes to IPP in detail. Sectorial associations and companies had offer their perspective of private sector participation in these projects. Finally, a representative of the GET.invest Finance Catalyst was presenting a summary of the IPP financing options available in the national and international markets.

In the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to take part in a GET.invest Matchmaking session, which aims to facilitate strategic partnerships creation between promoters and Mozambican companies through online meetings.

All sessions were online and had simultaneous interpretation, in Portuguese and English.

The register was mandatory, and was available from early February.

We hope you ensured your presence at this event to be able to take advantage of all the opportunities that have resulted from recent developments in the renewable sector in Mozambique!

GET.invest is a European programme that mobilises investment in decentralised renewable energy, supported by the European Union, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Austria. Since 2019, the programme has been operating a country window in Mozambique funded by the European Union and Germany, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The country window allows the programme to focus on the Mozambican energy sector as part of the European Union’s PROMOVE ENERGIA.
