Strategic program to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in the electricity sector of Sao Tome and Principe

UNIDO ALER partner once again to implement activities to promote renewables, this time in São Tomé and Príncipe. This partnership follows on from the previous collaboration with ALER, which resulted in the national report of São Tomé and Príncipe, available here.

The new contract, Strategic program to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in the electricity sector of Sao Tome and Principe, has the main  objective to create a strategic partnership to promote renewable energies in Sao Tome and Principe and south-south cooperation with other lusophone countries.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) fundes the project implemented by UNIDO in partnership with the General Directorate for Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE) at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Natural Resources (MOPIRNA) and in close consultation with other national stakeholders (e.g. DGE/MOPIRNA, NDA, EMAE, AGER, AFAP).

This program foresees the implementation of the following activities:

  1. Virtual awareness campaign, which will include the regular publication of online articles, the organization of 3 webinars and the creation of a Sustainable Women in Energy Program (STP, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau)
  2. Organization of two events to promote STP including the organization of a Workshop on sustainable STP energy investment in Europe and the 1st Sustainable Energy Conference of São Tomé and Príncipe
  3. Training program for national renewable energy associations that provides entrepreneurship training for sustainable energy entrepreneurs and start-ups and case studies on sustainable energy projects in Portuguese-speaking countries (São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau)

The duration of the project is 18 months, up to August 2021.
