In June ALER was present at the AEF and EAIF

ALER was present this month at the Africa Energy Forum 2022 that took place in Brussels, Belgium, as well as at the Energy Access Investment Forum 2022 event that took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.


Africa Energy Forum 2022 (AEF 2022)

AEF 2022 took place on June 21 - 24 in Brussels under the theme "Africa for Africa: Building Energy for a Just Transition". ALER accompanied the delegation from São Tomé and Príncipe (STP) headed by the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Osvaldo Abreu, and composed of the General Director of Energy Gabriel Maquengo, the General Director of Natural Resources and Energy José Bastos and the President of AGER Maria Conceição Mendes in order to participate in the highlight session on the same country.


With the recent approval of the National Action Plan for Renewable Energies (PANER) and the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (PANEE) São Tomé and Príncipe, goals, strategies and solutions were established to make the country's energy transition a reality. until 2030 and 2050. In order to implement these same plans, the country will have to attract partnerships, projects and investment.


In this sense, the highlight session on STP aimed to provide a platform for the Ministry to present this new framework and STP's commitment to implement a wide range of projects, accompanied by the Directorate-General for Natural Resources and Energy to present the projects and the needs/opportunities to meet these ambitious targets for 2030 and 2050.


Additionally, ALER had the opportunity to participate in a High Level Round Table of EU-Africa policy makers on energy transition co-organized by the European Commission and the ADENE Presidency of the European Energy Network (EnR). session, the importance of collaboration between the European Union and the African continent, the potential of the countries and key fundamental aspects for decarbonization were discussed.


The Executive Director of ALER, Isabel Cancela de Abreu, also had the opportunity to present one of the prizes of the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA), of which she was part of the members of the jury that selected the winning projects.


The AFSIA Solar Awards is the most important awards ceremony in the industry. This annual event, now in its 3rd edition, is the platform to recognize and celebrate exceptional talent and achievements in the African solar market. The application process is open to all interested parties, and candidates can choose from 13 award categories.

Energy Access Investment Forum 2022 (EAIF 2022)

The EAIF 2022 took place between the 28th and 30th of June 2022, in person in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The virtual participation included GET.invest Virtual Matchmaking sessions that took place on the 14th and 15th of June 2022 and whose registration was available to everyone.


EAIF is the premier annual business and finance event for the renewable electrification sector, enabling and fostering business and investor partnerships with the aim of sustainable access to electricity, decarbonisation, economic growth and combating climate change.


The Forum convened private and public funders, energy and climate investors, development finance institutions, international financing partners, government officials and private sector companies with the aim of boosting access to clean electricity globally, where 759 million people remain without access to electricity and another 2.8 billion people suffer from unreliable energy services.


ALER accompanied the delegation from Mozambique, which was attended by the Deputy National Director of Energy Marcelina Mataveia representing the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), as well as the Director of Legal Affairs and Consumer Support Telma Matavel Nkutuluma of the Regulatory Authority (ARENE) and also the Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of FUNAE, Filipe Mondlane.


In addition to government representatives, this session also included the participation of private sector companies and served to highlight and discuss business and investment opportunities in renewable electrification in Mozambique.
