Next phase of GET.FiT Moçambique programme

The next phase of GET FiT Mozambique Programme, funded by the German Government through KfW Development Bank, expected to last approximately six months, consists of the tender for selection and hiring of the implementation consultant, which will provide technical assistance to MIREME, ARENE and EDM in the implementation of the GET FiT Mozambique Programme. The beginning of activities of the GET FiT Mozambique Programme is planned for the third quarter of 2020.

In mid-2020, together with the Proler Programme, financed by the EU through AFD, a seminar will be held to present and discuss the main legal instruments, which are key to facilitating the tendering and private investment process in renewable energy projects. They are: Power Purchase Agreement (PPA); Concession agreement; and Interconnection Agreement. The aim of the Seminar is to develop and seek consensus around the PPA and the above-mentioned agreements models, to be adopted to ensure speed and transparency in the financing of new renewable energy projects.

This new phase follows the completion of the feasibility analysis, design and approval processes of the GET FiT Mozambique Programme, a period in which several meetings, intensive data and crucial information collection were performed, and seminars were held where key aspects were discussed on the development and promotion of private investment in renewable energy production. This phase resulted in the identification of challenges and the best solutions, with the main objective to attract investments that will meet the energy demand, ensuring universal access to modern energy by 2030, in line with the policy of the Government of Mozambique (GoM) and the Sustainable Development Goals.
