Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we all had to adapt to new conditions and new realities of work and living. Faced with the impossibility of holding face-to-face events, new technologies help to carry out online seminars and webinars. We share with you the latest webinars on the energy sector.

 

Covid-19's Impacts on Regulation

 

The President of the Energy Regulators of the Official Portuguese Speaking Countries Association (RELOP), Efrain Cruz, director of ANEEL, chaired on May 22 the first webinar of the association under the theme “Impacts of Covid-19 on Regulation” .

 

The event was also attended by the president of the Ibero-American Association of Energy Regulatory Entities (ARIAE), the director general of ANEEL, André Pepitone, and more than 50 representatives of regulatory bodies.

 

In addition to Pepitone and Efrain Cruz, the webinar featured presentations by the president of ERSE (Portugal), Maria Cristina Portugal, the executive secretary of ARIAE, Luis Jesus, and the representative of the executive secretary of RELOP, Natalie McCoy.

 

The debates were intended to share experiences among regulators on measures to address the impacts, in the energy sector, of the crisis caused by the new Coronavirus.

The Rise of Green Energy in Mozambique

 

Organized by the business year and sponsored by EDM, ALER’s Members, the webinar “The Rise of Green Energy in Mozambique” took place on June 1st, in a round table format and examined the opportunity for a green energy revolution in Mozambique.

 

This webinar intended to create a platform to define the priorities of the private sector and articulate a vision for the future of the sector. Also counted as speakers with Olga Utchavo Madeira, Director of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency at EDM, ALER’s Members; Emmett Costel, Executive Director at AMER; and Mario Batsana, Energy Specialist at the African Bank for Development (AfDB), both ALER’s partners.

Energy Efficiency in Buildings

 

Organised by the Energy and Climate Forum, the webinar under the theme “Energy Efficiency in Buildings” took place on the July 17th, with the participation of Olga Utchavo Madeira, Director of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency at EDM, ALER’s Members.

 

The Energy and Climate Forum is an organization born out of the will of civil society in all countries belonging to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, in a fraternal embrace to deepen ties and fight together for victory in the Climate Crisis. Find out more here.

Private Sector Investment in the Implementation of CNDs

 

On June 25th, a consultancy workshop was held to present options for private sector investment in climate change, organised by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Stantec.

 

The seminar aimed to highlight market gaps to improve private sector participation and increase climate finance on the African continent. This presentation was the occasion to inform key stakeholders about priority options and models to support private sector investments in line with Nationally Determined Conditions (CNDs).
