ALER signs new agreement with UNIDO

ALER is pleased to sign a new contract agreement with UNIDO. The signing of this Agreement is the reinforcement of confidence in the work developed by both.

 

The new contract, Strategic program to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in the electricity sector of Sao Tome and Principe, has the main  objective to create a strategic partnership to promote renewable energies in Sao Tome and Principe and south-south cooperation with other lusophone countries.

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) fundes the project implemented by UNIDO in partnership with the General Directorate for Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE) at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Natural Resources (MOPIRNA) and in close consultation with other national stakeholders (e.g. DGE/MOPIRNA, NDA, EMAE, AGER, AFAP).

 This program foresees the implementation of the following activities:

  1. Virtual awareness campaign, which will include the regular publication of online articles, the organization of 3 webinars and the creation of a Sustainable Women in Energy Program (STP, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau)
  2. Organization of two events to promote STP including the organization of a Workshop on sustainable STP energy investment in Europe and the 1st Sustainable Energy Conference of São Tomé and Príncipe
  3. Training program for national renewable energy associations that provides entrepreneurship training for sustainable energy entrepreneurs and start-ups and case studies on sustainable energy projects in Portuguese-speaking countries (São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau)

 

The duration of the project is 18 months, up to August 2021.

 

The previous contract, Promoting investments in small to medium scale renewable energy technologies in the electricity sector of Guinea Bissau, aim to attract international and regional companies and financiers to invest in the defined sustainable energy priority projects in Guinea Bissau and to promote knowledge exchange with other Portuguese speaking countries in Africa.

In the framework of the previous project ALER developed the following activities:

  1. Publication of the “Guinea Bissau Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Status Report”, as part of ALER’s national status report series;
  2. Organization of the Guinea Bissau Sustainable Energy Investment Workshop, as a side-event of the SEforALL Forum;
  3. Organization of the Guinea Bissau Sustainable Energy International Conference, with more than 150 participants in Bissau;

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized Agency of the United Nations. Its mandate is to promote and accelerate sustainable and inclusive industrial development in developing countries and countries in transition.
